KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, 20 October 2022 – FedEx Express(FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and one of theworld’s largest express transportation companies, supported withupgrading and enhancing the local kindergarten facility in PulauCarey, Selangor which serves the underprivileged indigenouscommunities around the area.As part ofthe global FedEx Cares program, around 50 FedEx volunteers cametogether to produce ecobricks and rebuild a perimeter wall of theTabika Kemas Kampung Orang Asli Sg Rambai, in collaboration withTreat Every Environment Special (TrEES), a sustainability-focusedenvironmental organization, and the Department of Orang AsliDevelopment (JAKOA). The enhancement was recently unveiled byFedEx, alongside key representatives from TrEES, JAKOA as well assenior leaders of the indigenous community.
The program was kicked-off with an ecobrick-making workshop, whereFedEx volunteers learned how to make ecobricks by compactingplastic waste into 500 ml PET (PolyEthyleneTerephthalate) bottles, each weighing no less than 200g.The perimeter wall was constructed from bricks as well as 1,500ecobricks, creating a safer playground to enjoy more outdooractivities, for 36 students aged between 4 to 6 years.At FedEx,we are committed to sustainability throughout our operations. Inthe same way, this program not only helps the underserved localcommunities but also raises awareness around the use of sustainablematerials. Villagersfrom the indigenous communities belong tothe MahMeri sub-ethnicgroup who traditionally work as fishermen, oil palm smallholdersand weavers.FedExsupports this initiative under its FedEx Cares global communityengagement program.
